Life On and Off an Acreage

In-sights into moving from an Acreage back to Town, plus a few things I find of interest.

Two things that horses are scared about:

1. Things that move
2. Things that don't move

Something Different Today!

I decided to go and sit beside a beaver pond today. The sun was out and we broke a record for the warmest April 18 ever at 26.1 C.

It has taken me a while, several years in fact to find the perfect spot for beaver watching.
This little fellow at about 30 pounds was very cooperative. He swam around the pond, hopped up on the dam then swam up to me. I could not get the lens to retract fast enough to get him in focus at a distance of about 4 feet!
This was the best I could do for a close-up.
Happy munching to you!

Muskrat Haven

A Sunday afternoon walk was in order today, after church , of course.
The farmer had harvested his field of canola and has started to harrow the edge.
The pond was empty of birds. The only thing swimming was this cute little muskrat.

He was not camera shy and proceeded to pose, keeping an eye on Brooklyn

He definitely has a rope like tail!

Then of course, there is Brooklyn. The water is getting cold as experienced by flying water, but not too cold yet to keep her out of the water.

Pond Life Shifting

The geese are starting to move into the pond. The water is getting to be cold, as noted by Brooklyn who was quite glad to get out after harassing the geese.

They all seem to be stretching their wings getting ready for the long flight south.
The Blue Winged Teal are still hanging around

More stretching!

They are still paired up. Canada geese mate for life and it shows in how they hang out.
I know, this is not a pond critter, but rather a Cedar waxwing in the front tree.
We have had about 6 inches of snow which fortunately all melted and several nights of hard frost. It appears fall is in the air!
