Life On and Off an Acreage

In-sights into moving from an Acreage back to Town, plus a few things I find of interest.

Two things that horses are scared about:

1. Things that move
2. Things that don't move

Old enough to be eccentric, but not rich enough

At the Waterhole Today

It was bordering on thunder storms and i almost didn't go out. Fishing was awash as it's no fun in a canoe in a thunderstorm.

I caught this guy on the shore of the pond. He was wary, but didn't spook

I was able to shift position to get a different angle.

A lot has happened since I was last here. The Bufflehead has hatched out a few.

The mallards are quite happy

Enough babies swimming around that a traffic cop should be hanging out.

The Blue winged teal is not happy with something or other. Could it be he is "hen Pecked"?

Even the beaver was out swimming around.

A Really Hot Day!

It was one of those non-ambitious days where I needed a walk, but not too big a one. The local watering hole came up with this Blue Winged Teal.

There was also this Belted Kingfisher. Not the best photo, but I now know where he is hanging out.

This pair of Green Winged Teal were resting. Well, the male was looking for food!

The Ospreys are back and nesting on the same platform they used last year. The one was intent on enlarging the home.

There was some interesting flying.

They are a massive bird

Stick after stick kept coming in!

This was a different way to land!

The male kept his eye on me. I was very close to the nest.

There were a few Mallards around

Also a few geese practicing water skiing.

Blue Winged Teal

Well, another one is finished and on the shelf in the living room. This one took about 30 hours to do. I am planning on a really detailed northern Pintail for the next carving. The carving will have to fit into rainy days around lawn cutting, garden building, house re-shingling etc.

It looks like it's going to be a busy summer!

Pond Life Shifting

The geese are starting to move into the pond. The water is getting to be cold, as noted by Brooklyn who was quite glad to get out after harassing the geese.

They all seem to be stretching their wings getting ready for the long flight south.
The Blue Winged Teal are still hanging around

More stretching!

They are still paired up. Canada geese mate for life and it shows in how they hang out.
I know, this is not a pond critter, but rather a Cedar waxwing in the front tree.
We have had about 6 inches of snow which fortunately all melted and several nights of hard frost. It appears fall is in the air!
