Life On and Off an Acreage

In-sights into moving from an Acreage back to Town, plus a few things I find of interest.

Two things that horses are scared about:

1. Things that move
2. Things that don't move

White Tail Deer

I took a short drive within the Town limits and found a bunch of deer. Not all cooperated, but a few did,

I only captured 2 of the 4 runners as I had to wait for them to be clear of foreground brush

A Bush Tour Today

It was a bleary and cool day but I thought I would take a drive anyway. I saw some new country and gave the dogs a good run.

The only thing critter wise was a lone Whitetail Deer

I suspect that I left my camera on a High shutter speed and the Asa was high enough to slightly blur the photos. My bad!

I was in an area that was new to me and had the privilege of driving on about a three km road made of wooden planks. It must have cost a fortune to put in! I The area was bottomless sand , with steep hills so I saw why it was necessary. I did not go to the end.

Out and About With My Faithful Companion

It was another bright and sunny day so Daphnia and I did a 5 mile walk with the camera. The snow is almost gone, but it is still muddy in the bush, in the fields, on the paths and almost every where else.

We did walk up on this White Tail Deer out checking for green stuff to eat.

These are the first Tundra Swans that I have seen this year. They looked tired and were not spooky at all.

The swans intermingle with the Canada Geese very well, but at times there needs to be a flight coordinator on the field
 No conflict here!
Definitely need at this landing. The FAA should get involved with this near miss!

 Don't I look great!
Here is a slightly muddy and very tired Daphne.

Spring Outing

I decided to take a bit of a walk/drive today. The bush is drying up and the critters are starting to move around. The Whitetail Deer look healthy.

I suspect there were a couple of fawns near by, but I didn't want to disturb them.

Some of them were hard to pick out. They blend right in.
There are still a few single geese around. Not a lot of other birds have arrived back yet. Due to the weather, I figure they are about a month behind normal.

Another walk was in the works today. I found this goose hiding out in the open on the other side of a branch of the Athabasca River. If she hadn't of moved slightly, I would not have noticed her.

This was the bird I was out looking for, a Sand Hill Crane. She was spooky and this was the best shot I got. I believe she is in nesting mode, so I will be back!

The edge of a swamp gave up quite a few Red Winged Blackbirds. Pretty, but loud! The song is interesting though

Watching me over the shoulder!

It seems every body was out, even this juvenile White Tailed deer.

One of my favourites is the American Robin. We don't see many in our area in town as it is too built up.

White Tail Deer

Today, just a couple of shots taken on a drive to check on my hunting area.

Don't worry, no critters were hurt!

First Day Out Hunting

It was a beautiful last day of summer with lots of colours.

In some cases it was painful to the eyes.

The only thing wrong with the day was the difficulty in seeing anything in the bush. The grass was waist high.

The first critter to show up was this Red Squirrel. He was a very noisy squirrel!

I decided to sit for a while overlooking a ravine, a likely choice for  deer to follow.

I was looking for a big buck, so let them pass.

Note: No critters were harmed on this trip! I think I will wait a few days for the leaves to fall before going out again.

 Mama is pretty cautious
 Yep, she finally saw me.
Note: No deer were injured or otherwise in this shoot !
