Life On and Off an Acreage

In-sights into moving from an Acreage back to Town, plus a few things I find of interest.

Two things that horses are scared about:

1. Things that move
2. Things that don't move

Old enough to be eccentric, but not rich enough

A Small Walk

After trimming up two horses, I decided to walk the fence line before turning them loose in the lower pasture. There is something wrong with this picture. Three horses, one lame from an abscess, two with freshly trimmed feet and out of business for a day, and here I am walking the fence line on foot
Boots was waiting patiently for the second victim, horse to get his share of toe candy and he lost it. Time for a quick power nap.
I decided to see what new flowers were blooming this week. We call them wind flowers and I don't know their proper name. Did you notice the spider? Center flower at 3:00 O'clock
The wild sweet peas are blooming.
The honey suckles are still going strong.
The wild rose, Alberta's flower is just starting.
There are still some comfrey blooming
I cheated. This is one of Elaine's garden flowers.
I found this lilac in the trees when we first moved onto the acreage and transplanted him. I guess that it qualifies as a wild lilac.
The horses ran all around the pasture, tasting each area for the best grass. Boots is in lurk mode again, behind the fence post. There were no wires down and no posts broken off.

Winter "Flowers"

Some people get excited when the first spring flowers come out. We get to look at these flowers all winter long, generally they bloom every couple of weeks. Like most, they do not last long. The sun is an enemy, not a friend.
It does make for some pretty scenery though. The temperature this morning was -20C (-4F) and the wind has changed to the north east. The moisture in the air was knocked out and we can expect a cold front and maybe some snow to wander through. Yeah, more time to play with the equipment.
The neighbour's horses way over yonder do what horses do, eat and eat no matter what the weather is like.
Note the nicely ploughed driveway! The chains on the quad really work well and I can plough uphill and down with ease.

Life is really good on the Acreage!

Sometimes You Have to Get Down

When was the last time that you really looked at the common dandelion? They are everywhere, and everyone seems to want to erradicate them. Look closely and you can see the complexity of this flower!
Or, what about this little guy? Not overly complex, but pure simplicity! I could not find him in any of my reference books, yet, here he is, growing wild in the middle of my hay field. He almost looks like a pansy, but a lot smaller.

I think that a lot of time we spend too much effort on the "big" things in our lives, and miss the small ones.

All sorts of things are starting to come out of limboPosted by Picasa
