Life On and Off an Acreage

In-sights into moving from an Acreage back to Town, plus a few things I find of interest.

Two things that horses are scared about:

1. Things that move
2. Things that don't move

Old enough to be eccentric, but not rich enough

Around Town

A walk-about today got me to the Athabasca River to enjoy the Canada Geese. (Noisy bunch). The weather was about +5C with no wind, so it was a great day for walking. Daphnie and I did 7 miles yesterday, and 4 so far today.

I think they were happy to see some sun and feel the warmth.
Can you guess which is the female?
On a lighter note the Common Sparrows were pigging out at the feeder.
So too were the Red Polls. Welcome back to the frozen North!
The mail Red Poll was staying close to the female.

Put it Up and They Will Come

My old feeder was slightly banged up, so I scrapped it and put up a new one. It only took one day for the birds to find it.

The Hairy Woodpecker was one of the first. He liked the home grown sunflower heads.

The Evening Grosbeaks were close behind. It doesn't take long for the word to get out.

The Sparrows showed up of course. I'm not sure which type this is. He doesn't match up with my reference books.

There are a lot of Robins still about, even though we had about 8 inches of snow on the ground. They stayed in the Crab apple tree.

Dark Eyed Juncos were also there.

My Favourite clowns, The Bohemian Waxwings put on a good show.

OK, OK, so this Red Tailed Hawk was not at the feeder. I found him down the road a bit. Poetic licence I call it!

It's Been Slow...

This female Pine Grosbeak is a regular on the berry tree. Regular little pig!

Of course, there are always sparrows!

The weather has been good, probably too good as the birds are staying away from the feeder.

The Downy Woodpecker still comes in for a daily dose of suet, but generally at first and last light only. I did catch him at noon though.

More Birds

One

 Two

 Many

All waiting for this guy to finish!

 A "Miley" Twerk

And a good laugh to end it up!

Cold, Cold Day!

We woke up to -20C (-4F) this morning, plus more snow.
There was snow on the roof
The Sparrows were all fluffed up and at the feeder.

The Blue Jay drove them all off until he had his fill.

So long for now!

Around the Place

This guy looked good sitting on the fence having a sun bath.

The pond about two blocks from here had some more blue winged teal on it.
