Life On and Off an Acreage

In-sights into moving from an Acreage back to Town, plus a few things I find of interest.

Two things that horses are scared about:

1. Things that move
2. Things that don't move

Old enough to be eccentric, but not rich enough

My Walk May6,2020

It was a good day starting at 06:30 dark. The pictures were all taken around Rotary Park in Whitecourt.

We have a Northern Shoveller preening

Whatever he can do, so can she!

It was fairly warm, but this Seagull still had to fluff up.

A pair of Blue Wing Teal enjoying the sunshine. She is very camouflaged!

Then there are the noisy crows. This one was not happy with Daphnie being so close.

The Common Loon was enjoying a stretch after chasing breakfast in the pond

Our Ospreys
are back. There have been Ospreys in that nest every year for about 9 years that I know of.

There were five Mule Deer in the park and they didn't mind Daphnie at all

They just kept on feeding.

Then there is the Canada Goose, head up looking for any danger to his hens

All in all, a good hours walk!

The Choke Cherries are Ripe

I was hoping for Robins, but ended up with these crows.  The berries must be getting ripe.

They nested in a spruce tree two houses down and are very tame.
I cant say I am overly fond of crows, but they are  better than nothing!

Not Ready!

September 19 was a cold and miserable day with SNOW! Fortunately by the end of the day it had mostly melted. However the monsoon rain continued and continued. The good thing is you don't have to shovel rain.

It was kind of pretty, and something that I have missed for 6 months....NOT!

I did put the winter bird feeder up and it wasn't more than 15 minutes before the Blue Jays found it, followed by the Magpies and then these critters. This is the first year that we have had crows feeding

All in all, not too bad a thing to have around, I guess.

Pond Life Today

It was very quiet around the pond today. The Sand Hill Cranes have been missing for a few days. I guess they have moved on to greener pastures. The odd duck was about waiting for the Pond Demon to chase it.
The grouchy crow was sitting there probably thinking that fall and winter are getting closer.
Yep, this guy is a real sour puss!
If the ducks are in a hurry, it's because Brooklyn is in pursuit.
What say? Shall we make her swim some more?
