I've been watching this guy for a few days. Today he came out to dine on this caterpillar. This is the first time that I've seen anything eat these guys. Either the spider is very hungry, or has no taste.
Up close and personal! The camera lens is only about 6 inches away in this shot. I was hoping that it was a runner and not a hopper. Actually he is rather cute!
Sleep well, me hearties! They are out there!
adorable! love the hairy ones! :)
ReplyDeleteYikes! Thank goodness I don't mind spiders. I was raised being told they are good to keep bug populations down and my mom would gather them up and take them outside. I even had a black widow in my garden and left her alone. However, with all that said, there is NO WAY I would have gotten 6 inches close to get the photo. NO WAY. So thanks for taking the risk to get the shot!
ReplyDeleteI tried to see the "cuteness" in the spider, but it kept eluding me. :-/ I'm not terrified of spiders, but we've had so many Brown Recluse bites in our family that I've become less inclined to leave them alone when found in our house. I can't believe he's draining this creature that looks to be three times his size!

...Feet up off of the floor...goosebumps on my arms...
ReplyDeleteThese are some GREAT shots! Everything in nature has its role, but seriously....spiders like this kind of creep me out.
ReplyDeleteGreat pictures Ian... but yikes. I'm not afraid of spiders, even the big guys, but there is always something a little discomforting about the hairy ones LOL.
ReplyDeleteOh, such a wicked sense of humor you have. How do you know this "cutie" is a "he"? I never get this close to them, cuz I dont like jumpers!
