Life On and Off an Acreage

In-sights into moving from an Acreage back to Town, plus a few things I find of interest.

Two things that horses are scared about:

1. Things that move
2. Things that don't move

New Guys on the Block

We seem to be adopted by 4 Black Billed Magpies. We see them frequently, often in the winter, and generally at a distance. These guys have taken to the bird feeder and our "pond". They apparently have a bad reputation, but so far we haven't seen why. They like to warm their feet on the horse's backs in the winter.
I am going to have to wait for a while until they become tamer for the in flight pictures. They are truly a very pretty bird.

Expect more (hopefully) in the near future.

  1. They are a pretty bird, and not having ever dealt with them, I am not sure either why they have such a bad reputation. (Apparantly, they make a good pie though! yucky!)

  3. Magpies are common in Colorado, but it's a bit too barren here on the ranch for them. We had them in suburbia, and I enjoyed them very much. Bad rep is undeserved!
