Life On and Off an Acreage

In-sights into moving from an Acreage back to Town, plus a few things I find of interest.

Two things that horses are scared about:

1. Things that move
2. Things that don't move

Fall is in the Air!

We are starting to get  down pretty close to frost at night now, so the garden produce is coming in. The zucchini is now chopped up and in the freezer waiting for the opportunity to become zucchini bread this winter.  The peas supplied enough  for 30 meals for two. The beets and potatoes are still in the ground waiting to be processed this week, along with the carrots.

We got enough red peppers this year to make two batches of red pepper jam! It is gooood!

Tomorrow is dry-the apple-day. Hopefully the dehydrator will do a decent job of it. This is also a first for us.
They should make a tasty snack for the deer hunts.

I like fall, as there is so much to do! Also, when the temp gets down to +4C ( or 38F), there are no mosquitos, black flies, or no-see-ums.

Once again the Lord has been good to us, returning about a 100 fold yield!

  1. Congratulations on your wonderful harvest! Me and Texan made jalapeno jam...I wonder if it is the same as your red pepper jelly? It sure is yummy!

  2. Looking Good Brother Ian

What time on Thanksgiving Day do you want me and my 9 hungry grandkids to show up for the feast?

  3. That sounds great! A lot of work, but you get to enjoy your bounty all winter. I've never dried fruits. How long do they last?

  4. A good trick to dehydrating foods is to lower the temp and increase the time. Also, spray your apples with lemon before you dehydrate them. They will last long is you dry them to a brittle stage. Good luck and have fun!!!

I need your recipe for the red pepper jam!!

  5. If OG is coming to Thanksgiving then I am too! I love fall, it is in the air here in Longview, although it is really summer. The leaves are just starting to drop off my apple tree. Things haven't turned colors yet, but the air is brisk, crisp, and cool and I love it.

Your garden seems to have done very well! Lord bless you brother!
