Back in the Saddle
I wish! It looks like my extended retirement is over, at least for the next few weeks. I went in for an orientation session at a waste treatment facilty today and signed on as a welders helper and general labourer.
I guess this is about the 6th time in 10 years that I have come out of retirement. This will be a real test of my shoulder as I expect that I will be wheeling brick for 10 hours a day for the next few weeks. It will also get my muscles toned up for some serious riding this summer.
The orientation took 3 hours, then 2 hours getting a respirator fitted and lockers assigned plus clean side and dirty side clothing assigned.
It should be an interesting couple of weeks. The shifts will be 10 hours long plus 2 hours travel time. I will likely be a tired puppy after a few days like that. Fortunately, they pay full rate for the travel time.
I gave the job some serious thought before going for it. I guess that if I felt as if I were 66 (end of the month) or that my shoulder would give me trouble, that I would probably stay retired. However, Life On An Acreage appears to be pretty good therapy for injuries, and also tends to keep a guy "young" at heart.
The next few weeks will be interesting!

Well, Lord bless you and keep you over the next couple of weeks. I hope it doesn't keep you from posting. I enjoy coming here. Sounds like some hard days ahead - but getting ready to ride is neve easy. I miss our horses.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations! I think? I hope you still make some time for the Old Geezer. I vote with brother Gregg, I hope it doesn't keep you from blogging. I'll just say one more thing....I'm glad it's not me!

Thanks! I plan to keep on blogging, although if the blogs become more incoherent than normal, you will know why.

ReplyDeleteGoodness this sounds tough. Hard labor? Well I do know personally how it is good to work hard but that sounds like really tough days. GOOD LUCK! Bye for now!
