Life On and Off an Acreage

In-sights into moving from an Acreage back to Town, plus a few things I find of interest.

Two things that horses are scared about:

1. Things that move
2. Things that don't move

Whats new at the Feeder?

With the temperature still at -28C and -47C with the wind chill, the feeder has been very busy the last 10 days. We seem to be hosting 6 Blue Jays several times a day.

There are also 8 Chickadees that come in after the Blue Jays are finished.
There are also about 30 sparrows that like throwing shells around. This one was fluffing up the feathers.

This Bald Eagle wasn't at the feeder, but in a tree by the dog park. No matter what the temperature, Daphnie insists on her walk twice a day. I was surprised the camera didn't freeze up.

Here is a female Pine Grosbeak. She and about 10 others come in the morning and again in the evening.

First Ever at the Feeder!

In about 10 years of feeding birds in Alberta, this is the first time that I have had Red Winged Black Birds show up.

They were super hungry and just wolfed down the sunflower seeds.

 Both were females

You never know what is going to show up!

What's New at the Feeder?

Lots of warm weather brings all sorts of birds out!

The Pine Grosbeaks seemed to be glowing in the sun.

They were not in a hurry to get to the feeder, but were content to enjoy the sunshine.

Now and again it got busy. An air traffic controller would have been helpful.

It's Getting Cold Out There!

The weather is hanging around freezing and the birds are stocking up on energy The Evening Grosbeaks are stuffing the food down

It is like the scene around the office coffee pot. Everyone is talking up a storm.

This guy has been in the Choke Cherry tree, and needs a napkin.

 That's better!

Starting to get a few of the neighbours dropping in.

They all seem to get along except when the Blue Jays show up. Then the bullying starts.

So far, so good. No Jays yet!

More Feathered Friends

The word got out pretty fast! Fresh Food! Peanuts!

Within minutes of going back inside they started to arrive. There must be a sentinel someplace near by.
Today it was -24C  (-11F)  or -35C (-31F) with the wind chill. I guess they were all looking for food.
The Blue Jays keep coming back, and can sure de-shell peanuts in a hurry!

Too cold for outside pictures today, but I did go to town to get a protective screen for my camera view screen.
