Life On and Off an Acreage

In-sights into moving from an Acreage back to Town, plus a few things I find of interest.

Two things that horses are scared about:

1. Things that move
2. Things that don't move

Those Texans are Tough!

While in Texas, I had the opportunity to take photos of Texan grown toilet paper. No doubt about it, Texans are in a class by themselves when it comes to the necessities of life.

What does a Canadian Do in Texas?

Why, go on an African Safari, of Course!

The above picture is that of my eldest son and 2 of the grandkids

This one is that of the grandkids out of the Monkey Cage. (They appear to have escaped!)

I have no idea what this is!

Horney in more than one way

 Lots of cute deer

Feeding the EMUs and Ostriches is risky. They look like they can be mean and also peck hard
A baby calf being  (spoiled) cuddled in the petting zoo

Mean looking!

Can you guess what this is?

Here is a clue

They had lots and lots of Giraffes

All in all, it was a very good trip and a lot easier than going to Africa!

Back from Trip

Well we just completed a 10 day holiday to the Shuswap in B.C. The trip went well, but it was hot, hot, hot. We survived by spending a lot of time at the beach and visiting with two of our grandkids.
We drove to Red Deer and over-nighted with our youngest son and family, then drove to Calgary and flew to Kamloops, then rented a car and drove to St.Ives. Coming home we basically reversed  it. All went well!

This is my loaner dog, a Black Mouthed Cur, a breed basically in Texas. He is a wonderful dog

We hauled and split and stacked wood. Well, Jonita hauled. Everybody got involved which is good because I strongly believe in child labour. The auto splitter was a marvel and made the work easy!
Our Grand daughter and friend had a blast on the kayak.
Things sometimes got a little inverted

They are growing like weeds!

Back Home Again!

After 9 days in Houston, Texas, I will probably bore all you all with a bunch of photos. We visited Brazo State Park to view the wildlife. I was there several years ago but never had this much luck watching BIG alligators. I now know why they say to watch your children, and keep your dogs on a leash.

This fellow came wandering out of the water, crossed the path and entered the other pond. He was about 8 1/2 feet long! Notice the people in the back ground. They were oblivious to his passing. The little guy looks to be about bite size.

They look so deceptively slow while floating about

San Jacinto State Park

This was another highlight of the Houston trip.
The view from the bottom shows a 570 foot monument. Up near the top, is the observation deck. Apparently, Texas had to get Federal money and/or approval to build it. This was granted provided that it was shorter than the Washington monument. Now, those sneaky Texans ( you know who you are) added a bigger foot and a 220 ton Texas star to make it taller than Washington's. The plans submitted did not include the additions.
Pardon the history lesson, but this is all new to me. Sure, I heard about the war and the Alamo, but there was a whole bunch of stuff here that I had no idea about.

Just think, a million square miles of territory changed hands in a 20 minute battle!

Before you call Homeland Security, I did not spray paint this! Well, I kinda, sorta did, using Paint. No State treasures were harmed by this wee bit of pride. I was amazed at the diversity of the combatants.
The view from the top, about 570 feet up is impressive. The USS Texas is actually a few feet longer in length than the monument is tall. The theater inside put on one of the best historical documentaries that I have seen. Well done, Texas!
