Life On and Off an Acreage

In-sights into moving from an Acreage back to Town, plus a few things I find of interest.

Two things that horses are scared about:

1. Things that move
2. Things that don't move

Getting to Feel At Home

Me: What are you doing on the furniture? Not allowed!

 Daphne: Sleeping! Or trying to.
The floor is not as comfortable! What do you think I am? A dog, or something?

Guess I will go and play with my bestest friend, Brooklyn.

We get along pretty good, as long as I leave her toys alone!

The Last Run of the Year!

It got up to just below freezing today so we ended the Old Year with on out-in-the-field-run. She enjoyed herself, came home, ate dinner and crashed. No staying up to great the New year for her!

Happy New Year everybody!

Pictures of Cuteness

From the files. Can't believe she is now 13!

Not Brooklyn. She is only 7

More About the Pond

The Pond was formed by excavating gravel and eventually will have houses all the way around it. It's on the flood plain of the Athabasca River so the water level fluctuates as the river level goes up or down. The development is advertised as "Whitecourt's Only Waterfront Property". Go figure!

The only thing in the pond this afternoon was the Swamp Rat
I fgured it was getting too cold, but she was insistent on a swim

Pond Life Today

It was very quiet around the pond today. The Sand Hill Cranes have been missing for a few days. I guess they have moved on to greener pastures. The odd duck was about waiting for the Pond Demon to chase it.
The grouchy crow was sitting there probably thinking that fall and winter are getting closer.
Yep, this guy is a real sour puss!
If the ducks are in a hurry, it's because Brooklyn is in pursuit.
What say? Shall we make her swim some more?

From Nose to Tail

One thing I like about this camera is the burst (sports) mode. Point, shoot and hold down the shutter. You get maximum shutter speed and the opportunity to see what's really going on during the shake.

The trick is to not get too close while this is going on!

More Pond Critters

The Sanhill Crane wasn't cooperating very well today. Darn hard to track them!

These folks must have just dropped in. I did not see them yesterday

I got too close and they started to talk in unison. Very, very noisy! Worse than a bunch of crows.
Brooklyn may as well be a pond critter because it is her favourite place!
Give her a pond and a stick and she becomes a retriever.

Odds and Sods

It was such a hot and sticky day, even the Ravens were reluctant to move!
I finally got to close and he departed over the Canola field
Brooklyn was lucky. She got to cool off in the pond down the street.
She missed getting me this time!

Swimming Day

On the way to the local swimming hole, we met up with eldest Grandson and Mad Max
The dogs took very little time getting into the water!
Mad Max was the most enthusiastic, but then again, he's that way about everything.
Brooklyn was not quite so exuberant.
She did her share of retrieving
 and stick chewing.
She was also not very good at picking her spots to shake. We  both got sprayed several times.
Meanwhile back at the house, Boots was as laid back as was possible and still be breathing. He has three holes that he has dug in order to stay cool. It was too hot and he is too old to be keeping up with the puppies.
