Getting ready for Winter!

When the rhubarb is ready it is time to put some down for the winter. This is half the goal (one third if I feel ambitious).

Step 1 is to chop up the rhubarb

 Step to is to coat it with the crumble mix. I replaced the wheat flour with rice flower. It worked out great.
 Step 3 is to cook it for an hour and drive myself nuts with the aroma. I know, some might say it is a short trip.
Step 4 is to cover and seal with aluminum foil and freeze.

I made up two pans on Thursday and we had the Whitecourt family over. The two trays lasted no time.

With a double scoop of vanilla ice cream, there is not much better for a dessert. The best part is rhubarb just keeps coming up with next to no maintenance. My kind of plant!

Anybody feeling hungry, or drooling yet?

Rhubarb crumble, ice cream, and coffee. It doesn't get much better than this!

    That just looks yummy. I've never grown rhubarb. Not much call for it down in Texas, but I wonder if it would do well here?

    OK one more question. If you made two crumbles for the dinner.... what happened to the other ones, hmmmm????

    Sounds and looks delicious! I planted some rhubarb this spring, and with all the rain we've had, it's growing quite nicely. Next year I'll be making some of this, for sure!

    I love rhubarb but hardly ever get to eat it. What a great way to keep it, by freezing it for later. I love it with custard.

    oh Ian, those look fantastic! I keep meaning to plant rhubarb, and never do. No wait, I DID plant some one year, but too late in the season, and it was not happy... so it died. Oh well.

    Yummy! I have two rhubarb plants. Sounds like not much doesn't it. But here in Texas growing rhubarb is hard! It took me two years of buying starts (which all died)and 3 packages of seeds I started to get those two plants LOL. I read grow it as a annual here as our heat just wipes it out. But I have kept mine alive since last year! woowhoo... I can just taste some rhubarb crisp...mmm I have not harvested it yet but plan to take some this next spring!
