Life On and Off an Acreage

In-sights into moving from an Acreage back to Town, plus a few things I find of interest.

Two things that horses are scared about:

1. Things that move
2. Things that don't move

Things are Looking Up

Boom is still hanging in there. I would say that he is slightly better because he is now starting to eat a little bit. He won't touch his normal favourite apple flavoured horse treats, but will take a quarter scoop of sweet feed. His preference is hay at the moment. he is still unstable and breathing at a rate 3 times normal. I am giving him injections twice a day of dexamethazone 5. He takes the needle really well without a flinch. The ventipulmin  to be taken on his food he will not touch, even when put on sweet feed. The solution is to take the syringe, without the needle and shoot it into the back of his mouth. He is pretty good about this, but lets it be known he does not like it!

The snow is almost gone and the rhubarb shoots are starting to emerge. This is about a month late for around here.

The Icelandic poppies are also stating to grow. They are one tough flower! The first to flower and the last to stop.

It will be a while before the garden can be worked. It is still pretty soggy out there.

I will leave you with this shot of a laid back horse. He is enjoying the sun and is definitely not shaky in this position. What else are you to do when you are feeling poorly, other than to sleep it off. Day 3 of the 4 day treatment is complete. We shall see what the next few days brings.

  4. Oh no! I just read your previous post. But he is hanging in there, right? If he's eating a little, that has to be a good sign!
At least he can lay and bask in the sunshine, that must feel so good to him.

  5. Glad to see Boom is doing better. Problem with old age it can't be reversed. But we can still pray for an extra year or two.
