It would appear that this is getting to be a rare and unusual sight in Alberta (and Saskatchewan for that matter). Over the last few years there are less and less of these around.
What's so unusual about a train moving along the tracks? Well if it's a CN rail train, it is getting to be more likely it is lying on its side burning vigorously, expelling toxic smoke.
What's changed over the years to cause this phenomenon? Lack of track maintenance? Lack of inspection? Speed? Falling asleep, Worn equipment?
It seems that our Provincial and Federal Governments are very slow off the mark on getting to the root cause of this!
Several derailments were just outside communities where serious damage could have occurred. Sound familiar? Quebec?
