Life On and Off an Acreage

In-sights into moving from an Acreage back to Town, plus a few things I find of interest.

Two things that horses are scared about:

1. Things that move
2. Things that don't move

Old enough to be eccentric, but not rich enough

Grrrrrr!

What's wrong with these first two pictures?

Give up?  Tucker is lame again and unable to put weight on the front right foot!  After a vet visit, 200 ml of penicillin and 4 days of Bute, she was doing well! Yesterday she was walking and running normally and I was figuring that she was maybe good enough to ride. This morning, she was totally lame again. Same foot, same symptoms. I went down to the vet to pay the last bill and got another dose of penicillin. He figured that the hole that he dug must have plugged up and given the bacteria another go.  I soaked the foot and dug out all the old crud in there and dug a little deeper to take the pressure off. She was very good until I got down to the quick. I will be soaking the foot 3 or 4 times a day and hoping the penicillin works. In the meantime, she is on grass to keep the mud from packing in and away from the other horses so that she isn't trying to follow them all over the place. In other words, bed rest.
It was not pretty watching her try to move on three feet! Mean time, Boots is back on duty keeping an eye on her. Injecting a 1100 pound horse with 4 needles for a total of 100 ml is not my favourite thing! She was very good and didn't even flinch!

Horses!
