Life On and Off an Acreage

In-sights into moving from an Acreage back to Town, plus a few things I find of interest.

Two things that horses are scared about:

1. Things that move
2. Things that don't move

Crazy Weather!

Just when we get used to -30C (-22F), Yes it is possible, we get a Chinook blowing in over the mountains and we get days of +11C  (+52F). Go figure!

Basically, it makes a big, sloppy mess! Where there was salt and sand on the roads there is now foot deep slush! Our driveway is sort of in the shade, but has gotten a wee bit slippery.
The fields have shrunk their snow depth to about 50%. That makes for tough walking when you are sinking in about 8 inches every step that you take. We had a very high wind that knocked a lot of branches down, blew the garbage can over.
Alpine likes her blanket, even on warm days and will not let me muss with it.
The beady eye is on me. Leave my blanket alone!
Boots doesn't mind at all. Guess which direction the 3 horses are.
For those that have been wondering how Tucker is doing, here is part of her weight chart that shows that she is slowly putting on weight.
It was quite funny to hear from our southern daughter-in-law to find out that Whitecourt was 7 degrees C above Houston Texas! We were +11 and they were only +4. I suggested that she move north to catch the heat wave.

  1. We've had a heat wave here too, but cooling off now. Ha, I live in FL, so that's not saying much, right? Glad to hear Tucker is doing better.

  3. I think here in Edmonton ...we only got to +7.... reminds me of the Chinooks back 'home' in Calgary, in my young days!!

  4. We've had quite the temp swings here too, but with just a bit of snow.

Wow, Tucker's weight sure did a nose-dive. So glad she's starting to gain it back.

  5. This is an upsidedown world Ian.
So no more snow fights between us instead when I come over I'll bring my bikini and you serve a nice cocktail is it?
Ha, happy days my friend and be careful not slipping on your rare end.

  6. It's quite weird to hear Texas is warmer than Canada. Wow, what a weight plunge!. Here's hoping Tucker keeps doing better. Yesterday morning, when we got out of bed, I thought 73 degrees here was cold. My sweater came out of the closet for a while there. Keep warm!

  7. Here in Indiana, you never know what the weather will be like from week to week...seems to puzzle the weathermen as well.
