Life On and Off an Acreage

In-sights into moving from an Acreage back to Town, plus a few things I find of interest.

Two things that horses are scared about:

1. Things that move
2. Things that don't move

It's Too Early!

September 1, we had our first frost! The temperature dropped to -2C (28F). Fortunately, we have a good weather channel and they gave us warning. I was able to pick the apples, get 2 gallons of peas in and put frost blankets on the main garden. We didn't lose anything and the remaining peas are OK.
ITS TOO EARLY! I AM NOT READY!

The leaves are starting to fall.

I got the area behind the flower bed cleared out. The trees behind will likely go for firewood  and that area will become pasture.

The turkeys are almost ready to be "Done". Brooklynn will miss her buddies. She is about 95 pounds to give you some idea of the turkey size. Tomorrow, one will go on the scale.

I got my truck back after 3 weeks. It hasn't run this good for several years! Now if I can get another 200 K on this engine, Life will be good on the acreage!

It looks like we will be feeding hay pretty soon. The horses are talking to me in the morning, and are starting to clean up the weeds. Alpine , is definitely not a happy camper!

  2. I am a "northerner" but I am certainly enjoying North Carolina's summer weather in September. Took a nice dip in the pool today. :)

  3. I am waiting for fall. This morning sure felt like it. AT 5:30 AM it was 47 degrees and crisp. A bit of fog covered the pasture and danced off the barn and stable. It was so beautiful. Glad all your garden made it.

  5. Oh Ian, you had frost already? I think we WON'T buy that piece of property just down the road from you, hahahahahaa!

That's too bad about your garden, though. At least you had good production in some areas. The raspberries are lovely.

Love the turkeys. We haven't raised any yet, only a few meat birds. Next year ...

  6. Well, in a way I envy your early onslaught of cold. It is 90 here in the afternoons but the overnight temps are dropping into the low 60s.

    Save me a drumstick!
