Life On and Off an Acreage

In-sights into moving from an Acreage back to Town, plus a few things I find of interest.

Two things that horses are scared about:

1. Things that move
2. Things that don't move

Anyone for a Hot Tub?

Fall is definitely starting to show it's colours. We don't get the bright reds of the maples, but rather lots and lots of yellows.

The turkeys are getting big!

The turkey hot tub is fired up and will be running this week in order to get the turks into Club Freezer. The bottom part of the 45 gallon drum is just large enough to get one in. So far, the toms have been averaging 26 pounds dressed.

Only seven more to go!

  1. Wowza, we really must raise some meat turkeys next year. Hot tub, indeed!

  2. Uhg...not a job I could do. But, I like the fire. It's a great way to cook a big pot of soup for a gang.

  3. Looks like fun. OK, maybe not for the turkey. I would love to have a bunch of that in the freezer; but alas, I am a city boy. Sigh...

  4. Those are some big turkeys! I really enjoy reading about how you live off your land and the many bounties it provides for you. I wish terribly that I had the room to do those things. I was wondering though, maybe you can clarify. What is the "hot tub" for? Is it part of the "dressing" process? do you fully cook them this way or is it just a preserving type of a thing. Just wondering. Toss me an e-mail if you'd like.

  6. I love a good soak in the hot tub, but I'll leave this one for the turkeys!
