Life On and Off an Acreage

In-sights into moving from an Acreage back to Town, plus a few things I find of interest.

Two things that horses are scared about:

1. Things that move
2. Things that don't move

Too Hot, But the Work Goes On.

It was stinking hot today 25 C (78F) and very high humidity. I got the gallon of raspberries before the temp maxed out, so that was good. I figured I would toss in a picture to make some folks hungry. It looks like a gallon per day for the next 10 days. No, I didn't eat any. They are all in the freezer.
Today was mow the driveway day. To do that i needed to run some fence so the automatic mowers didn't go visiting at the neighbours. They have been known to do that in the past.. Below is the rig on the back of the quad trailer for running the wire. It works extremely well.
I gave strict instructions to the mowers to start at the roadway and work their way down. So much for listening! Tucker is hiding behind a tree in the shade. Alpine is well away from the driveway.

Then there is Biz! She did what she was told and ate near the edge. You know it's hot when Boots is in close and laying in the horse' shade. Brooklynn stayed on the deck, in the shade and was  king  Queen of  her domain.

Yeah, you! I'm watching you! Now get back to work up at the roadside. I mean it!

  4. I've gotten a laugh out of "stinking hot" at 78 F ;-)
I spent some time last week picking raspberries and blackberries. It's a job I hate, but it's worth it to have them fresh on my cereal, and indulge in jam mid-winter. Your raspberries look better than mine though - I think the heat/drought conditions have spoiled a lot of the fruit crop down here in the US.

  5. I agree 78/80 to hot! And too bad the "help" didn't mind a little better, but they have the rest of summer to work on that driveway. Hope you take it easy and stay hydrated.

  6. I know its all relative on what is hot and cold to us all. All in what we get used to :O). We have been 110 every day for nearly a week, which even for here is above our normal hot. Whew... Those raspberries look wonderful!! I have tried several times to grow them here. No luck.

  9. Wow, love raspberries! Yum! okay, I see many mentioned the temp. But I guess it's fair-we have more heat and you get the cold. But that's like fall temps for here. :)

  10. Oh my gosh, raspberries are my favorite fruit, and your photo is making my mouth water. I need a good article on how to plant raspberries. Anyone?
