Life On and Off an Acreage

In-sights into moving from an Acreage back to Town, plus a few things I find of interest.

Two things that horses are scared about:

1. Things that move
2. Things that don't move

A Little bit of Everything

Our chicks and turks are now 3 weeks old and capeable of sustained flight (sort of). They can now easily get to the top of the feeder and up to the new perch.

The leghorns are starting to get their combs. Birds develop fast!

It got real interesting on the Acreage yesterday, with lots of blowing , snorting and dirt tossing. it appears that the grazing lease behind us has two amorous bulls in it, plus the regular allotment of cows. I went to the fence and watched the goings on hoping for some good action shots. Alas, only some head butting and a lot of posturing. Maybe that was a good thing as both these are big boys !

On the darker side (photos to come), I was cutting a roll of chicken wire in half with my angle grinder when it caught, kicked up and came down on my fore arm on the inside. There is now a pretty good imitation of a hesitation mark good for 9 stitches. I also ended up with a tetanus shot as the last one was about 15 to 20 years ago, and a 2 week run of antibiotics. Fortunately, the roll of wire was new. However, the zip grinder blade was not. Maybe I will forget about the pictures this time. The inside of the arm was quite interesting to look at, until it started to bleed.

  1. Oh, Ian, I hope you are okay. That sounds bad. The chicks are really cute and getting big so fast. Wow, those were big guys there. Thanks for letting me see life there.

  2. Good to hear that the damage was no worse than 9 stiches and a shot! Could have been worse, so we praise God with you that it wasn't.

Great shots of the birds! Neat little creatures God has created for His glorious pleasure and our use.

No way I want to mess with big boys! Hope they stay in the fenced area.

  3. I hope you are ok and look forward to an update on your condition.

Those little birds are coming right along. Yummy!

If you want to see a little more action out of those bulls, next time throw a rock at them.
