Life On and Off an Acreage

In-sights into moving from an Acreage back to Town, plus a few things I find of interest.

Two things that horses are scared about:

1. Things that move
2. Things that don't move

What to do in the Dead of Winter

When the grandkids come for a visit, there is lots to keep them amused on the acreage. There are horses, egg gathering, and of course SLIDING!We are fortunate to have a 400 foot driveway with a fairly steep incline and a sharp turn part way down. Fortunate for sliding, but not for driving a car on. The corner allows a lot of speed and a hard banking of the sled so as not to get airborn and buried in the snow, or rolled over. The sled is one that I hung onto over the last 60 years and was made for me by a good friend of the family when I was about five. As you can see, it can go about 30 miles an hour and can bring out the fear in a passenger and driver. If the driver is really good, and can negotiate the corner, there is a continued run of about 500 metres on the county road. The little tykes walked back a couple of times, but much prefered riding and letting the "Old Mule" pull them along. The Mule was blowing and puffing a few times, but fortunately had the daughter-in law- around to help with the haul. I thank God that I am still able to get out and do fun stuff like this

  1. WOW!! Those are great photos!

Last week we had more snow in our local mountains (about 100 miles north of my house) than we have had in many years. They even had to close the roads down for a time.

We are very thankful for the snow pack. In So. Cal. we'll take all the storms that come our way.

You have a fine looking family Ian, God has truly blessed you, Ron

BTW, Thanks for sticking up for me in your comment on my latest Mrs. Geezer post. Libby and some other blogger woman are starting to take Mrs. Geezer's side and went as far to say I should take a lie detector test !!! Mrs. Geezer even made a comment and told everyone I was related to Pinocchio! It sure it getting tough being The Old Geezer.

  2. Terrific pictures! What fun your grand kids are having! I especially like the one of you and your grandson where you all are turning the corner! His little face has that look of exhilaration mixed with a tiny amount of scared! That is the mix for some of the best fun!
