This winter was very hard on some of the White Tailed deer. I saw a lot of dead and eaten fawns while out walking. These guys made it!
There is next to no body fat left on them. Fortunately, the weather is now seasonal and the grass and branches are greening up. They will still be vulnerable to predators since they have very little reserve energy.
They are really scrawny. Like you said, once the grass greens up they should be fattening up. Some bitter winter days here I've found dead birds by the feeders or on the decks. It's a tough world out there.
