Life On and Off an Acreage

In-sights into moving from an Acreage back to Town, plus a few things I find of interest.

Two things that horses are scared about:

1. Things that move
2. Things that don't move

Walking by the Pond

Early morning, about 10:00 am is a good time to take Brooklyn for a walk and swim. 10:00 am is right after coffee, early for me. The pond in the center of town is peaceful and relaxed.
That is, until Brooklyn makes a few waves.

Nobody likes a wet dog that shakes! Up close, that is.

The book says this is a Greater Yellowlegs, the first I've seen in the park area.

The baby Ospreys are getting bigger and I don't imagine they will be in the nest much longer.

Thoughtless Thursday

It's thoughtless 'cause it's so darn hot and all the Boss wants to do is work on the access ramp. Somebody has to keep these critters under control. They are getting a little too far away.
I will give them my patented Stink Eye. That should bring them in closer. Glad I didn't have to move too much!
Don't look at me. I don't do horses. Besides somebody has to keep an eye on the Boss in case he falls of the ramp, or hurts himself. Besides, I am a bird dog, and it's too hot!
I mean it! It's too hot! Now let me sleep.
Or maybe I'll go smell the roses. Naah, bad idea. Too far!

Repairing Horse Blankets, With Difficulty

Difficulty's other name is Brooklyn who decided that a horse blanket would make a perfect place for a nap!

Still Snowing!

My faithful companion doesn't seem to mind the snow, as long as I'm the one breaking trail. It's almost time to get out the snowshoes. The snow is about a foot and a half deep now and it's getting hard to slog through it

Pile #3 did not burn as spectacular as the other two mainly due to the large number of fire wood blocks in it. I told every body "If you don't take it, I'm going to burn it." I couldn't even give it away, cut, but not split and beside the road.
I will have to shovel off this pile before burning. There are about 3 half ton truck loads in this pile.
It was a good day to go out and toast my buns by a rip roaring fire.

A Horse Designed by an Engineer!

I believe that the word Moose means "Eater of twigs" in Ojibwa. At least that's what I was told back in my younger days.

This gal showed up this morning along with last year's calf. The calf was in the bush and I couldn't get a picture, so you are stuck with the cow.
The cow was doing some willow trimming for morning breakfast.
As you can see, the moose and the dogs have things worked out. Brooklyn barked a couple of times, got too close and the moose did a couple of half hearted kicks then resumed eating.
Moose are funny critters, but extremely fast when they get moving. This one was not in the mood. I think she was mooning Brooklyn!
Brooklyn is about 100 pounds to give you some perspective of the size of the moose.

We just ambled down the driveway to get the photos. She knew I was there, but saw me as no threat.

Hopefully, I have not offended any engineers out in blogland. It's been a kind of running joke over the years.

What's in your front yard today?

Getting Caught Up!

The great weather continues and although I didn't get any riding in yesterday or today, I did manage to get some projects done.

A Round To It
As "The great Procrastinator", I have managed to postpone some jobs for several years (or more). One job was to fabricate a welding table. I had all the material for about 8 years but never seemed to get a round to it. That changed today! I completed it!

The next job was a recurring one that involved trimming some horses feet.  Tucker was the first victim candidate and she did well. I took off about 3/4 inch of nail, trimmed up the frog and pared out the sole. She was real good about all the attention. Tomorrow is Biz's turn.

Tomorrow's job has been on the honey do list for 8 years, namely replacing some screens that have holes in them. I can't see the urgency, as I haven't seen a mosquito in months. Ah, well, She Who Must Be Obeyed, should get some consideration, mosquitoes or not. I was kind of hoping to hold off and make it the project of the decade. Guess I should just bite the bullet and do it.
My helper stayed by my side and gave a certain amount of encouragement. She also enjoyed a feast of horse nails and sole. Dogs!

Humph!

Now when you look at me,

how can you say I am fat!

I am NOT fat.

I am not even circumferentialy challenged!

I am just fluffy!
( and lovable)
